The real name of the 'ensaimadas' of the fallera hairstyle

The hairstyle is an indisputable part of the success of every fallera and will continue to be so in the 2022 Fallas. Side buns are popularly called: ensaimadas. But it is not its correct name. The officer is cheeky.

Every year, hairdressers strive to achieve the miracle of the perfect hairstyle that has evolved relatively little but has succumbed to some fashions and trends, basically out of pure comfort. Most buns are previously sewn to give them their shape and make their placement as easy as possible.

The origins
The Valencian hairstyle dates back to the 18th century, when women tied their long hair up in a bun to be more comfortable. In the 19th century this hairstyle was slightly modified by a new fashion: the hair was divided into three sections, with a part in the middle and another from ear to ear. With the hair that was left behind, the previous bun was made but, in addition, on each side of the face, close to the ears, they added a small snail-shaped bow, called a 'rollete', which was hooked with two hairpins (one vertical and another horizontal).

The hairstyle, whether you opt for an 18th or 19th century bun, is finished with a back comb and, in the case of the 19th century, with two smaller replicas of the main comb, one in each bun.
